Do i want a Specialized sirrus/vita?

Hi, I'm trying to buy a new bike! the search has been going on and on, I mainly need it for my daily commute through london, but also for a few weeks touring this summer through spain. I want it fairly light and strong, as i need to keep up with my girlfriend (specialized dolce) but it doesn't have to be amazing. I'm on a tight budget so am looking mainly at second hand bikes. The specialized vita and sirrus seem to be coming up in my search again and again, do you think this is an appropriate option ?

My budget is under £300, so it's a struggle, but i do know some people who could fix something up a little bit (no major overhauls), so this could help.

I ride a men's Sirrus Sport (2010) model and am a woman.

I am 5'10 so women's specific bikes aren't really an option for me. If you do buy a men's bike, you'll want a women's saddle and you may find the reach is a little far but that is easily rectified with a shorter stem.

Be a little wary of Gumtree as there are a lot of nicked bikes that make their way onto there!

I was looking at Halfords website & they have some clearance on old carrera models. I quite liked the look of THIS & it's within budget too. Some folk will slate them, but others have had great pleasure form carrera bikes

I've recently looked at a vita and really liked it when I test rode it. Its certainly the lightest of those I looked at and speedy. The sticking point for me was the width of the tyres - I'm as clumsy as they come and will find potholes where none exist to ride through, so I went for the Ridgeback Comet - similar style bike but felt nicer for me and had wider tyres! I still think the Vita/Sirrus would be a great choice though.
