Looked under the hoods of my new sram shifters and i found out that who ever had wrapped the tape had not put any at all under the hoods so your hands were resting on no padding at all.

After a quick look around the garage i found a emulsion roller sleeve

I cut it off about halfway along then split it in 2 , the inner plastic center left a nice curve so i could fit it under the hoods for some padding.

If there is no tape under the hoods then the tape has been wrapped incorrectly. Padding? Well that depends on the tape.

do you guys mean just underneath the rubber hood at the edges, or actually on top of the brake body under the hood?

Your right gaz i would wrap them a lot better myself but as i have just sent the commuter for a new headset and wheel re build i thought i had better try a DY fix atm as i have spent enough on bike bits and want some money for ice cream next week

The tape is fairly thin , i prefer to have thicker stuff myself .

Brompton, i meant under the hood rubber from the edge of it to where it curves up to meet the shifter where you rest your hands.

I have been thinking about adding extra padding under mine. That is a jolly fine idea
