hi all
i have done a search but i couldn't find what im after.
im looking for some means of turning a standard front bike wheel into a wheel with a disk brake. but i dont want to strip the wheel apart and new spokes and new hub. i just want something that will bolt into place and revive a disk brake.

thanks

You need a disk ready hub to take a disk brake rotor - end of story. Also does your frame have disk brake mounts for the caliper? Having a disk brake means all the braking torque is at the hub, rather than the rim, so the hubs have to be strong enough to handle that.

im building the frame myself so i can put the mounts onto the frame. i wasn't sure if it would be possible to get something that bolted to the hub like a plate that clamps around the hub and also has bolts between the spokes to a second plate on the oposit side. i have some very nice steal hubs that should be up to the extra strain.
i would like to have disk brakes on the front i have great wheels and i have the brakes from and old bike the wheel its self is shot to bits but the brakes are almost new. seems silly to waste then i just wondered if it was possible to use them both.

Also, you will need to re lace the spokes in the left hand wheel to get the pulling and trailing spokes in correct direction to take the disc brake forces ( because to get disc on inboard side you'll be running the wheel in reverse if you see what I mean).

I can't help wondering why you don't want to build a new wheel, if you are going to the effort of (and have the skills to) building your own frame?

You're not going to be able to do anything to turn a standard front wheel into a disc compatible, no clamp-round system would hold well enough

On your trike you could consider these, http://www.bicycledesigner.com/bike...sc-brake-adapter---free-or-flip-flip-hub.html
But on one side it might unscrew unless thread locked on or even bolted somehow. Don't know if you can get them in UK.

now that i like the look of yea i could use a rear wheel i seem to have more of them than i had bikes lol

a frame is easy just cut and weld iv never done wheel lacing and i dont feel like i have the skill to do it. iv always wanted to try maybe one day i will
There is no option other than a new hub that I'm aware of.
I have seen an adapter that bolts on using the spoke holes and then needs respoking - it is a bodge that is not worth discussing.

This has got to be the daftest thread I have read. No you can't modify an old rim brake wheel with non disc hub to accept a disc brake rotor. Why not buy a factory built front wheel with a disc hub for approx £70? Given the stresses that brakes are subjected to making it a pretty important component in the safety department I wouldn't ar$e around trying some stupid potentially dangerous bodge as you seem to be. You will also need an oversized tube front fork to take the extra stress that a disc brake generates and disc specific brake levers either hydraulic or cable. Any brake mount on the fork should be aligned using a jig as if it is out of alignment or fails because of this the consequences don't bare thinking about! Give up and buy a disc brake bike off Ebay.
