Hi,

I have had my kraken for about 6 months and its been great, I chose it with the expectation of using it mainly on canal paths and trails. During the first few months thats mainly what I did use it for (and it was ace for it) however, now Im fitter Im now riding alot more on the road and have been thinking about changing it for something more road orientated.

I have just been to halfords and looked at the cheapest boardman road bike, I think it was the comp and I have to say I was impressed. Carbon forks, decent groupset looked loverly too! I was really impressed with the way it didnt feel fragile, especially the wheesl which have a very deep rim, I was expecting the same sort of thing as my last road bike, a Raliegh Team rep I got as hand me down 20 years ago.

I also lke the look of the Spec allez, but it seems to have a lower spec groupset (although reviews dont seems to bad mouth them)

SO, my question is, do boardman and specialized do discounts at any time in the year?

Im going to be looking at selling the kraken in time for christmas, hopefully having the cash for any January sales.

Thanks, Paul.

Halfords do not seem to discount Boardmans much if at all.

Specialized it's up to the bike shops but now is the to look. The new year models generally come out around September / October and last years versions are discounted to get rid.

You might get a bargain in the new year but generally only the extreme sizes are left by then.

Agree with Oldlegs.

Bike shops don't do January sales in the sense that we understand.

Best bike bargains can be found between now and late October as they're making space for 2011 stuff.

Specialized dealers only do discounts if authorized by Specialized so this time of the year is the only time
you'll find them cheap though as it's a clearance the frame size choice may be limited especially as demand
increased during the recession contrary to expectations

I did spot a few Boardman deals towards the end of the 2009 range, but it was very store specific, very hit and miss stock levels (i.e. not actually available even if the system says so) and less than normal sizes. I was 'just looking' at didn't get one! Specialized will be easy to find discounted as others have said.

I got £300 off my secteur comp. However, the bike shop I wanted to buy from said Specialized had no models of the allez or secteur in my size. So I had to go with Evans. You might find they're sold out by now.

Try the Specialized Concept Store in Fort Dunlop, Birmingham. They might have the Allez 24 in stock at the £449 price.

I was in Decathlon today. They had thier B-Twin (3 I think), Alloy frame, carbon forks and rear stays, Campag gears/shifters for £499.
Certainly looked like a good deal!
