I have a Specialized Roubaix SL4 disc with stock Axis 2.0 wheels, I've done 3k miles on them and the rear hub is finished with. I'm looking to upgrade them to something better and lighter, my budget is ~£300.

I'm 14 stone, ride 5 days a week on rural roads, no commuting. I was hoping to get a good all rounder for summer/winter, and a wheel that won't hold me back as I feel the Axis do esp when hill climbing, which I do a lot of.

Two wheels I am looking at are: Mavic Ksyrium 700C 6 Bolt Disc Wheelset 2016 and Fulcrum Racing 5 LG Clincher 700C 6 Bolt QR Wheelset

I really don't know if these are suitable and if they are, which would be the best value (the Ksyrium come with tyres, which leaves me thinking the wheel itself is possibly not as good as Fulcrum considering the tyre cost).

Would really appreciate any advice or other suggestions.

It's no contest for me, Mavic everytime, even though I would bin the tyres. I prefer Schwalbe

Wow.. that hub didn't last long. I would take it back to the shop to see if they can get it replaced.

You can get a nice set of handmade wheels for not far of that price too.

Shop I bought it from said it is wear and tear and couldn't be replaced under warranty.

Any suggestions on handmade wheels ianrauk?

Any particular reason not to go for the Fulcrum?

Thanks for the replies!

Just a personal preference. I have both the Aksium Disc and Racing sport disc which are a step below your choices and really pretty much equals. It came down to familiarity for me and for a reason I can't explain, I felt that the Mavics were that bit different on the road. FWIW I use the Fulcrums with CX tyres and Aksium with 28mm road tyres.

I also have the Ksyrium Pro Disc which are just amazing to look at, touch feel.... Sorry I'm drooling
