Disc wheel improvement?

I have a 2010 boardman hybrid pro with ritchey disc wheels.
I am looking to upgrade the wheelset to the mavic askium disc...is this a much of an improvent?

Not really, no.

As Vickster says, what are you expecting the upgrade to achieve for you (apart from a change of branding on the wheels) ?

Have you had your wheels regularly serviced? If they're getting on a bit it might be worth stripping the hubs, checking and regreasing the bearings, checking the rims for trueness etc. Otherwise YS is correct.

Aksiums are a shade under 2kg the set, the Ritcheys are just over that, so using the same tyres and tubes you wont notice any improvement.
If you haven't already, go for lightweight tyres and tubes, you would notice those alright.
