Hi everyone just received a Kona Dew drop via Ebay. Was thinking of fitting a rack as per my Kona Smoke so I can use the Topeak bag I have. I have looked at the disc brake and rotor and the brake itself is on the horizontal (Avid BB7's). I can't be sure but it appears that a regular rack might work and not interfere with the brake or rotor? I need to get another one anyway so nowt to save by switching but would a regular rack work?

Thanks that's probably the rack I will get but I was wondering if there is enough clearance with this brake set-up to use a regular rack such as the Super Tourist dx which I use on the Smoke? I will probably get the disc specific one just to be safe. Evans do it for £36 and I already have the bag that slots onto it. Thanks again.

I have the slot on bag too, it's handy!

Can you not remove the rack from the Smoke & try for size?

I'd follow Ruskys suggestion and try it for size. I've got a regular supertourist dx on a disc equipped bike, it needed a very minor amount of 'tweaking' to get it to fit. Really depends on if the supports will clear the brake caliper or not.

I got the Topeak 'babysitter' rack for my disc braked CX, bit cheaper and lighter than the other one, and has the slide rail for the bag

Thanks everyone. I might try the existing rack on the Dew and see if it works. It looks tantalisingly possible that the rack would fit but would need to get a second one as I don't like continuously changing stuff about and stressing the entry points on the frame. Will spend some time on that this week and probably order from Evans. Thanks again. Gez

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

I'm also looking to get a rear Topeak rack. Like the OP's Kona my Cube also has the rear disc brake on the chainstay as opposed to the seatstay so I too am wondering if the regular non-disc rack will fit. Did the OP reach a conclusion or has anyone else got knowledge of this?

Regular Super Tourist Dx fitted fine. This is the same rack on a Sutra. Identical as the Dew Drop from the original post. As long as the brake caliper is within the rear triangle it seems to be okay to use a non disc rack, or that's what has worked for me on two different bikes. Gez

Well done mate. I actually gave up & went out and bought the regular 29" Explorer rack and it fits just fine. Like you say - and as I suspected - as long as the brake piston assembly is within the rear triangle there's no need for a disc-specific rack. Photo to follow.

And here's why I need a rack in the first place..

I doubt there's ever been a surer sign that I'm getting old than the burning desire I've experienced of late to own a bicycle basket. Job done!
