Just got a cx bike with disc brakes and want to get some spare pads in. I know nothing about discs so have no idea what lifespan I can get out of them, but wondered what the differences are between organic and ceramic pads? Is it grip or lifespan? If grip then I think I'll stick with the cheaper organic pads as they have plenty of stopping power.

I get about a year (appx 6500 commuting miles in all weather) out of a pair of semi metallic pads, compared with previously having to change rim brake pads every 2-3 months and new rims every 18 months.

Great source, @ianrauk. Topped up on my supplies for BB7s. More than one of my bikes is definitely making that 'spring hitting rotor' twang when rolled backwards :smile:
