Is it possible to remove the brake lever from combined brake and gear MTB levers?

Planet X are currently selling the Clark’s Clout Hydraulic brake set for £30 which seems to be the cheapest around. I was hoping I would be able to remove the brake lever but keep the gear changing bit in place so I can just get the brakes without also changing the shifters.

Do the good peeps of Cyclechat know if this is possible?

Fairly cheap to get stand alone MTB shifters rather than hack it.

I'm not sure there's a way to remove the brake lever other than drilling out the spindle. Even then, you may still need to trim the body to have enough space for the new lever.

As @cyberknight said, probably easier to get shifter units, they're fairly well priced.
