Just got in from a 20m ride (or there abouts) and my avg sp is down to 13mph. Whats more its been going down the last few days, the begining of the week I did 40m at 15mph with nearly 1100 ft climbing. Yesterday I did 29.5 @ 13.6 with 1050ft of climbing today 18.75 @ 13 not worked the climb out yet but about 550ft I think.

Also, think about it this way, shorter ride means time stopped at lights etc accounts for a larger proportion of the elapsed time. Especially if you tend to have to ride out so far within traffic, then end up on nice lanes on the longer rides.

Also maybe you are just tired, its the end of the week, you have been at work etc plus riding.

Time was taken from the comp which stops when you stop, so yea it does bring the avg down slowing and starting, besides there are no real hills around here, and i have only been cycling just over 2 months (well back cycling after 15 years though did ride to London in 2008).

Did you enjoy your ride? If yes, then so what about the speed.
Always enjoy it maybe not at the time sometimes though.
take averages with a pinch of salt even on the same route, i have a 24 mile loop and from week to week my average can vary widely dependant on how i feel, the weather and traffic.

Could be it !
I understand that, but this is the first time its been so low in the last 13 rides no matter what i have been doing, before that I struggled to get an avg above 14.

Thanks for the responses.

I've seen this problem before. I prescribe a nice sit down in the garden with a beer. Your next ride should be quicker following that, if not, repeat.
Lol, don't drink alcohol.
I agree over the past two months if I have took a few days off, my next avg has jumped e.g 11.1 to 13, 13.3 to 15.2 and 13.7 to 16, then it falls back, I cant stop until after tomorrow though (unless I do a 36m run later) as this will give me my first 200m in a wk, I know not much to some of you, but its a milestone for me.

200 in a week is good going. It is most likely that you are just trying to exercise fatigues legs, which are more interested in growing new blood supply than being further damaged. A day off always helps.

I know, its just I want to achieve this figure this week, I suffered a compression injury to my right leg some years ago, and sometimes when on the bike I get a sharp pain in the knee, usually when I push to hard in a high gear, it has been quite difficult for me to get up to even these speeds, and whilst my cadence is on avg the mid 80's (it was the low 80's when I got the new computer) I do have to spin on the hills rather than push, and I know this brings my speed down.
I have found that my knee is stronger and doesnt cause me as much pain as when I first started and I can push a higher gear longer on hills, its a pain when (excuse the pun) it happens as I need to coast that leg so to speak, so all my effort then comes from the left, it easer's after a while.

Having said that I have just seen I got a new P.B. on a stretch on strava.

Blimey, if I had just done 200 in a week I'd barely be able to stand long enough to excrete urine!

I was like that, but i usually do between 120-160 and the last 3 wks it's been at 14.3-14.7 what ever the weather ect....

The only time I haven't done 120+ in the last 12wks were the first 3 wks and 4 wks ago took nearly a wk off the bike.
