Leslie Phillips has died aged 98.
The ultimate cad and bounder. And one of the last surviving Carry On regulars.
Known to the younger generation as the sorting hat in Harry Potter.

Virtually every carry on film would be problematic today.
Times change. And so do social norms.
The portrayal of women and homosexuals was very different then.

And if you actually watch a whole Carry On Film - not just a handful of funny clips - they are really dire.

But the actors knew that, they were professionals who were in it for the paycheque. Except I'm sure Kenneth Williams was torturing himself about his art.

As has already been said, he maybe thought of as a mysoginist by today's standards, but his autobiography is a good read.

Literally dodged a bullet in WWII by having a hearing defect, so sat in an office sending letters and telegrams to parents/wives giving them the bad news, he tells of his sadness at seeing all the names of people he went through training with.

Sad news, he was in one of my favourite 'mini series' ever called 'Love on a branch line', I'd post a linky but this new 'Chromebook' won't do it.....................well worth a google though
