OK so as much as I love my road bike I can't help but feel I'd be comfier with either a shorter stem or some short reach handlebars the way it is at the minute the reach part of the bars just feels too long but a shorter stem would deal with some of the issue as it would obviously bring it all closer but I'd still feel the reach is too long but the stems cheaper and easier

Loch side.
It is much easier to change the stem than the handlebars and the effect is the same. Thus, no-braininer unless there are complications such as the stem already at 60mm or so.

Assuming the bars are also the correct width, may help comfort but not necessarily reach

Shorter stem seems the easier option

Nah current stem is a 110mm 6 degree, tried my friends 100mm 7 and that seemed far better there just seems to be too much reach on the hoods, maybe I'm just too used to my little bar ends on the hybrid

I'd say shorter than the standard is short

I thought that too, but it's always a good thing to ask and not assume
