I’ve just taken on a project to refurb a Pashley Tricycle. Anyone got advice where to start? I’m soaking the chains and other metal parts as it has rusted up. It will need new wheels too. Thanks I’m new to this forum so advice and guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks

Greetings Jane,

I can't see much detail on the wheels - do you have any better pictures? It may be that a soak in oxalic acid (sounds horrible but is cheap and perfectly safe) will revive them nicely.

Hi, interesting project.
I started one for my daughter, thinking that she would be able to ride and control one, but doesn't have the skills - we ended up with a tandem trike in the end.

What sort of braking/gearing does it have?
I can see a front hub brake, but is there a secondary brake?

Can't give much advice as I quickly passed mine on, but take plenty of photos, particularly of the rear transmission, before you start dismantling - will help with reassembly.

Good luck

Hello Jane and welcome to the forum.

Can't really see much detail in those photos but you might have it the wrong way around - get s new chain and save the wheels, unless of course they're hopelessly buckled and corroded.
First you need to strip everything down to clean and inspect for wear.
Any advice needed just ask as you go.

My approach is to try and strip it back to a bare frame, you can then inspect every component and build it back up as a “good as new” bike

I’ll take more photos once I’ve retrieved it from my sister’s garden. Hence the soaking to release the seized up chain. I’ll also hear Oxalic acid in mind. Isn’t that what’s in Rhubarb leaves?
