Hmmph!
Those of you who have been on my forum rides from Hebden Bridge will have noticed that we have a few big hills surrounding us here! As a result, those of us in the valley can't pick up a direct signal from the Yorkshire TV transmitter at Emley Moor. Instead we rely on a relay tower on a hillside overlooking the town.
Apparently, our relay station only has capacity for 4 analogue channels, so there will be no Channel 5 here and no digital terrestrial TV (Freeview) until Wednesday, 7th September 2011. On that basis, my family bought me a nice Pioneer analogue hard disk TV recorder for my 50th birthday in 2006 and I expected to get 5 years use out of it. All was fine until last week...
Suddenly the Guide Plus+ TV listings stopped downloading. I've been busy so I hadn't looked into it until today but I've just been over to the Guide Plus+ website and what did I find...?
9 months until we get a terrestrial digital service here (in some places nearly 2 years) and the company go and switch off an important service. I assume that they have concluded that not enough people still use it to justify the expense of running it. The thing is - products using the Guide Plus+ system were sold on the basis of how easy that made them to use. There wasn't any mention of cutting the system dead before the digital switchover was completed!
What's even more annoying is this little gem...
It looks like I will have to start buying the Radio Times again (or start printing programme listings from their website) and go back to manually programming my recordings the way I had to with my old VCR - bah, humbug!

In fact, they seem to have killed it 3 weeks sooner than that - absolutely bloody super!Guide Plus+ said:In the UK the Analogue to Digital switchover is well underway and due to be completed in 2012. However ITV1 GUIDE Plus+ services comes to an end on the 31st December 2010.
Therefore as from the 1st January 2011 GUIDE Plus+ services will no longer be available on remaining ITV1 Analogue Terrestrial services.

So, let me get this straight... If I receive SKY digital TV programmes and I subscribe to British Eurosport, I can get a signal out of the SKY box which enables me to download Guide Plus+ analogue TV listings for the hard disk recorder which would by now be redundant. If I had SKY box I'd be using SKY listings and recording on the built-in recorder - d'oh!Guide Plus+ said:If you are using ITV1 as the Analogue Terrestrial Host channel you will need to change Host channel if possible. Analogue GUIDE Plus+ units have the possibility of using British Eurosport as the Host channel if also using a Sky Satellite receiver.
