Hi all,

I am looking at buying on of Tacx's VR Turbo trainers, but am undicided on which of the above to go on.

Is there any justification spending an additional £200 on the Fortius over the i-magic. I am only aware the difference is the braking system. Also is the steering option (£120) really worth the cost?

I belive that things have changed but the fortius used to be able to provide more resistance and turn the rear wheel to simulate free-wheeling down hills. The software used to be the same. (Not sure if this is still the case)

I have the i-magic. Despite Tacx claims it genearlly fails to simulate anything over about 5%. However, for me this doesn't really matter. It still provides enough resistance to have me out of the saddle / down the gears.

When the trainer can't produce enough resistance you get a virtual speed displayed in red. The virtual speed is based on your power output output / gradient not the actual speed of the rear wheel.

Racing against your previous times certainly encourages you to push yourself hard. 30mins is normally enough to destroy my legs and leave a great big pool of sweat on the floor.

The software they run on your PC is exactly the same...the difference ( as RedBike suggests) is in the turbo unit. the i-magic is based on a "flow" and the fortius is based on the cosmos. They both provide resistance in relation to what you are seeing on screen, but the fortious does it better. There are issues with the reliability of the fortius and its very expensive. I've got a flow which I later upgraded to an imagic... Its brilliant... today its going to piddle down, so I'm going to do a time trial up Alpe d'Huez and see if I can beat my PB...58 mins!!!
