Theres a rather cheap deal for a DH wheel I've got my eye on. The trip I'm doing is just a normal touring with only a small bit of DH.

So is there a major difference in wheels being DH or cross country or touring etc.

Thanks

edit: said bargain http://www.edinburgh...4c003137c003534

edit2: Also do I have to replace my 26 x 1.75 tyre with a 26 x 2.1 or does that not matter?

DH wheels are usually wider, heavier ( a lot heavier) and stronger than XC wheels.

The recommended tyres widths are 2.3 to 3.0; you can fit a 1.75, but fitting a narrow tyre to a wider rim can flatten out the tyres profile possibly adding traction or more rolling resistance depending on your point of view.

Noted and thanks

At any rate the bike I'm using is 5 or so years old so heavy as hell already.

When we're talking weight lets say I bought a bog standard MTB wheel for I dunno 30/40 quid. With this DH wheel being a £100 version, will it be roughly the same weight, twice as heavy etc. Obviously it will be near impossible for you to give a definitive answer but a rough guess would be a lot of help!

edit: I'll stop being lazy and do my own research

And just remembered the 1.75 tyre was for the rear wheel not this new front one so nvm on that.

It's just at £25 with free delivery to the Channel Islands couldn't really pass that offer up.

Again, thanks for the help.
