I loved the books and have seen the Swedish versions dubbed on German telly and now have to wait for the dubbed Branagh ones prior to getting the Brit DVDs. Anyway, out of curiosity, did anyone watch it and how did you rate it?

Mrs rich p likes it but I found it tedious and predictable albeit with a bit of nice photography. I've had it with overworked detectives full of angst and tortured private lives.

Watched all three shown by the BBC. Loved them. I have guessed 'whodunnit' in everyone, so they aren't too difficult to work out, but Brannagh's acting is wonderful, the setting glorious, and I like the way it's not all beautiful people with gleaming white teeth, botoxed faces, boob jobs and car chases..

I'm not that big a fan of the books, but Branagh's performance was outstanding in this, as was the guy who played his father in the first one. Generally it got the atmosphere dead on, and I think Branagh looks better in the role than the actor in the Swedish TV version - even though the Swedish one is more 'accurate' in terms of the minor characters, and the pacing.

I missed the first one, but I liked this episode and I've recorded it in HD. I'm now wondering if it's possible to compress it so I can send you a DVD as it's a huge file, so you can have a preview. The BBC have applied a kind of DRM to their HD shows, so if you use a Freesat compliant HDR to record, you can't archive it without a lot of kerfaffle.

The BBC showed a subtitled episode from the Swedish version a couple of weeks ago, and the Branagh one seeems a lot better to me. Less talking, and less shaving! But I generally enjoy things about overworked detectives full of angst and tortured private lives. ;)

That's an extremely kind offer which I would gladly take up but I feel I ought to point out that I understood nothing in your second sentence except "Kerfaffle". I do know however that DVDs put films on the telly when I stick them in my machine.

Loved it too for much the same reasons.
Branagh's great in the role and the production values are superb. Having lived by the Skane coast albeit a few miles from there, it brings back many memories, the beautifully coloured red and yellow buildings against the light pale green grass of summer, the quality of light especially on the brackish waters of the Oresund, the thin white strip beaches, the ferries plying back and forth and the Swedish houses. I could almost smell the place.
There are many innacuracies, in pronounciations for example, but one thing that is easily seen in all the outside shooting that is absolutely typical of that area is.... the wind. It nevers stops, they called Helsingborg where I worked the "Windy City" for good reason.
It makes me feel homesick for a time and place I loved very much.
Plus it's something half decent worth watching on a Sunday night.

Ditto. I don't think I guessed the result, but I'm not a great guesser of whodunnit, I just let it all wash over me.

Just makes me want to live in Scandinavia though...

Not seen the last one yet but really enjoyed the previous two, stories and acting have been good but it is the serene light that has captivated me and would quite happily move there today.

Not me. I thought the Scandinavians are supposed to be the happiest people on earth, but everyone in the series is gloomy or screwed up beyond belief - apart from Wallander's daughter whose unnaturally cheerful.
