I'm always toying with upgrading to a Di2 groupset and wonder if I could buy the parts cheap, say on eBay to save a few quid but I wonder what actual parts do I need?

Obviously I would need the shifters, front and rear derailleurs, a battery, cables etc but after that I am at a loss.

Does anyone have a shopping list kind of thing so I know what I need to buy and I'll try and piece a groupset together.

Thanks!

You'll need to add two junction boxes and rubber grommets to that list and cable holders (I used regular cable ties) - these go on the internal cable to stop them rattling around in the frame. Also, you may need a battery holder (is you're using a seatpost battery and you're seatpost isn't a standard size/shape). I also got a length of spiral cable housing to run the wire from the top junction box (at the shifters) along the brake cable to the point where it entered the frame.

And lots of money I will stick with my 11 speed mechanical Ultegra.Shifts perfectly for my needs.

Merlin sell the gear kit to change from mechanical to Di2. I am going to follow the same route as you when funds permit.

please please please - if you're going to do it, do it right and properly, not try and do it "on the cheap".

trying it on the cheap will cost you more in the long term to fix the bits that are cheap and worn out.

Had one in who did it cheap, but wasnt working, as the thin cables had been bent and split - as thats how it had come in the pack!

BTW, some of these replies assume you're opting for the Internal di2 setup...that is preferable but won't work for all frames. I must confess I really enjoy my di2 (external kit) but I agree with Moby, pay attention to the little things.

I'm currently doing this - with a seat post mounted battery. Have a Selle Italia monolink post. (31.6). Thinking of the 3T holder. Has anyone used this in anything other than a 3T post and does it work?
