Five of us started out on a DIY 200k on Saturday from Exeter in temperatures of about -5. Water bottles were frozen by the first control and stayed frozen all day. We stuck mostly to main roads but still encountered ice patches here and here. Lunchstop was in Westward Ho! After that we headed south via Torrington and Morton to Teignmouth, and then through Dawlish to finish at a pub near Starcross. I used the fixed in a vain attempt to stay warm. We had both snow and rain, as well as a bit of chilly sunshine.

Crikey that must have been gruelling not to mention scary in the temps we are getting.I took the car to work last night as it was a bit icy then couldnt get it out of the carpark so had to walk home this morning. call me a wimp if you like but ice frightens me on the bike,

I must admit my hands were really painful as they thawed at the first stop at Bampton. After that it wasn't too bad. I blasted off ahead a few times to keep warm - I was keeping a slower rider company and didn't have quite enough clothes on for pootling. Lunch in a deserted wintry Westward Ho! was...er...different.
