Derallier Question!

will a 9 speed rear derallier work with an 8 speed system???

The deraileur will work but you need either a friction control or an 8 speed indexed one. A 9 speed indexed control will have the wrong pull distance.

if were talking about the rear mech then yes. Indeed my old Allez came with a 9 speed Tiagra rear mech with all the rest (shifters etc) 8 speed.

thats just wrong isn't it.

rear mechs are 'controlled' by the shifters, and they pull as they are told to by the shifter.
