Hello, sorry for another topic, I was just wondering if any of you have any opinions on what would be the best bike for me, I'm looking at 500-600 pounds, so the ones I would be looking at are the: Trek 1.2 Tripple, Spesh Allez (Don't know what model), or the Defy 3.

Thanks.

Can you get down a shop that has at least a couple of them stocked and test ride to compare?

Well I'm doing research on LBS'. but I haven't found one which stocks all 3 yet, so I'm planning on going to some later this week/early next week, was just curious about what you guys/gals think.

To sum it up, they are all great!

You have to try them all even if just a ride around the car park and you will instantly have a favourite... thats the one you go for. I did with same bikes just a few models up and personally bought an Allez, it was clearly better suited to me and was in a different league to the others... but thats me, my boss rides the Trek 1.7 and doesn't get on with the geometry of the Spesh.

This will also give you an opportunity to get to know the LBS, a good lbs where you feel comfortable and you know you can rely on them is very important, just bear in mind that they re not always the best 'sales people' as they are more than likely bike mentalists enthusiasts themselves.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Have always read rave reviews on the Allez. Quite like the look of the Giants too but think the sizing works differently on them and have seen folks posting love it or hate it style comments about Giant bikes in general...

Good luck finding a LBS that have all 3 and are willing to give you a test ride.
I know of shops round here that stock 1 or 2 of the makes but they won't give you a test ride.
I am going to gamble on which one looks the nicest and has decent components.
The new 2010 Trek 1.2 is black, the Triple looks to be £625 and looks really nice !
However you may get a 1.2 2009 model for £575 but again I know that no LBS near me that stockpile bikes.
The new Spesh is £600 and there seems to be plenty around
There are hardly any 2009 Defy's and no announcemnet on the 2010 models.

True about the Allez models, It now works something like this:

'09 elite = '10 comp
'09 sport = '10 elite
'09 standard = '10 sport
'10 standard introduced as entry level, sora components instead of Tiagra etc.

Haven't tried the others, but have just got an Allez triple (2009) for £505 -- discounted from £565. Very nice bike, handles well, nice range of gears. Good value for money in my (inexperienced) view.

Good advice here. Try all models out by going to different shops, like mentioned highly unlikey you fill find a store that does all three. Another to bear in mind would be the boardman comp for its value/spec.

The lbs is important factor too as they are needed in support until your confident about maintaining the bike yourself. This sometimes makes up for weaker specced bike depending on your situation.

i have bought a allez 10 and i have to say that the 09 it is better, it comes with branded dual brakes instead of factory ones and has a better rear mesh over the 09, and tbh i think the allez 09 in black really does look bad compared to the white 10.and i have to say i prefer it a hundred times over the defy 3 or even 2.5. they really are great bikes.

I'm not sure you're right about the quality of the 2010 components being better than the '09 models. 10's are Shimano 2300 8 speed, 09's are Sora / Tiagra mix and nine speed.

The 2010 Allez is, IMO, not all that different from a cheap Carrera.

Went bike shopping with a friends Yesterday and he got an Allez Sport (10 model). Really nice looking bike. We've just returned from his maiden voyage

Sora Hollowtech chainset, front mech and brakes - with Tiagra rear mech.

I reckon they have paid cyclesheme heavily to promote their bikes as they seem to be the choice of most cyclescheme participants.
