Hi all

I could do with a bit of advice about my Hybrid. I replaced my old MTB for a Raleigh Pioneer a few weeks ago and have been commuting about 10 miles a day on it. On Monday afternoon I got to the bike shed and the back tyre had blown out with the tube completely blown apart, they are 700's pumped to about 70 psi. I replaced the tube and got home but the wheel is badly buckled. On closer inspection of the tyre when I got home there is a section which appears to be soft and raised. Do you think it's a defective tyre and should go back or are they going to pull the 'wear an tear' card on me?

Would direct sunlight on the tyre cause a blow out? Anybody else have this problem? I wouldn't have thought there would have been that much of a pressure increase on the tyre to cause that.

10 miles a day for a few weeks doesn't wear out a tyre

It's duff, take it back to the shop and demand a replacement for the buckled wheel and defective tyre

I agree with Vorsprung. They might try the 'careless and reckless' card, if so just mention the 'Sale of Goods Act'

My wifes bike is a Raleigh Pioneer the max recommended tyre pressure is 55 psi.Its a couple of years old so may have different tyres to yours but check before telling the shop you had 70 in them.
