Goes below the front mech, and clamps round the seat tube. You better check as the FP's have a rather chunky down tube.

You may want the other chain catchers that fit on the front mech boss.

I have been away from cycling for a long time and am replacing my vintage racer with only 1 front sprocket, with a 27 gear bike & 3 front sprockets. Is it a common occurrence for the chain to fall off in bottom gear? I ask because if I 'break down' and can't fix it myself I physically can't walk to get help/home, so this issue is worrying me a bit.

No, but if you do drop the chain, just put it back on again!

I've seen chains so firmly wedged down between the little ring and frame that they couldn't be released without the use of heavy duty tools and were destroyed in the process.

I've also seen some very nasty frame damage caused by dropped chains. (I haven't got any carbon fibre bikes but wouldn't fancy having that kind of damage done to mine!)

Funny how the bike snobs look down on pie plates, but dog fangs are acceptable?
