I have a Felt Z4 carbon bike. I have been told I cannot use racks that require eyelets or whatever and that my best option is a seat post rack. Most of these have about a 15 lb. limit, but that should work for me. I have read about Giant, Delta, Blackburn, Topeak. They all seem (on paper) to be variations of the same thing. I also found the Arkel Randonneur Rack which primarily attaches to the saddle rails with a passive support on the seat post. This looks like it would reduce sway. Can anyone give me advice on this?

Sway can be a problem as you've identified, so the saddle rail one sounds good.

Alternatively, Topeak do one for road bikes:

My topeak seat post bar and bag have been excellent and much used for the last 3 or 4years. One point the instructions say not to use on carbon fibre seat posts.

Theres a spare tyre tied to the top in that pic. I could have dropped down one of the folding panniers and put it in there'

Bontrager do a rack that has a top fixing in the rear brake assembly and supplies and extended QR skewer to attach the *feet* of the rack to.

It gives a proper solid rack that doesn't swing and can take properly attached panniers. TBH it is probably better with a side mounted bag as it is quite narrow across the top to fit the profile of a road bike better

shouldbeinbed........thanks for the Bontrager suggestion. They do seem to have some good choices and I discovered a store close by I can ck out. I also learned from you that I am very deficient with my internet slang as I kept trying to located a company called "TBH" that you mentioned. I finally figured it out and now your post makes even more sense - plus I learned something. Thanks.

I have an Arkel Randonneur rack and bag. I find it quite solid when fitted and can be removed quickly when required.

I had a query about fitting it to my carbon seat post and this is the reply I had from Arkel:

"Thx for writing and for your interest in our hugely popular Randonneur rack.
Yes the Randonneur is compatible with your Giant Defy 3 aero seat post. The
seat post bracket is made of a soft rubberized material and it adapts to
pretty much any shape of post. Since the contact area on the post is more
localized on an aero seat post, you could simply add a layer of electrical
tape at the contact area to prevent scuffing of the surface. You will find
included in the package a Velcro extension that you can use to extend the
length of the regular Velcro strap that wraps around the post."
