Schwalbe Land Cruisers will fit the bill. Has a centre section that rolls OK on roads, but they still work fine off road, in mud and gravel, and are available in 26" - I use them on my old MTB for a mixed surface commute.

I’ve had good service from Fincci tyres on my road bike - apparently they do MTB tyres as well. Amazon offer the at £40 a pair.

how do those fincci tyres rate ? i have seen them on amazon and wondered if they are ok ? i did try some of the wiggle own brand tyres but they were terrible as the rolling resistance was so high it was like riding through treacle all the time

You generally can't have both, you can have cheap or decent

Unless there is a discount being offered.

Schwalbe G Ones. Are a good all round tyre. Get them in 2" wide super comfy when setup tubeless

I put a pair of 700x25mm on an ‘86 Dawes Renown, and found them a vast improvement over the 18mm I took off :-) Had no problems with punctures, no struggles to get them on, and they had no slippages on wet roads. Didn’t get caught in the rain, though, so can’t pass an opinion on that. I’d buy them again.
