Hi all

Looking for a decent but cheap rack for rear of bike and bag. What do you do when touring? Carry shoes/trainers ?

Has to be something good enought to carry work items, lunch box, iPad etc. if bag would do what I need I could justify more money.

Your help always appreciated

I think it's worth spending a bit of cash on, i went with topeak super tourist rack and DXP bag, it slides onto the rack and has fold down panniers, holds loads of stuff... About a hundred quid altogether.

Topeak is normally one that pops up but I like my Tubus, I use Carradice Kendals as bags.

Shoes? A cheap pair of plimsolls/deck shoes will do?

That's a Topeak Super Tourist rack and possibly the MTX bag but I can't be sure. There's about three different bag options but all come with drop down side panniers and the rack will take a stand alone pannier too on either side with the bag slid on the rack.. Very pleased with it but it's not water proof so I use a rucksack cover and keep plastic bags in the rolled side panniers when rolled up and zipped as per the pic. Aluminium rack so possibly not ideal for very long tour but fine for commuting to work etc.

More recent pic with cover on. I also use a saddle bag for tools and other stuff to save space in the rack bag.

I've never took the chance to be honest. Read somewhere that it wasn't and as they offer a rather garish silver rain cover I put my already well-used rucksack cover on it straight away. Might not be required but the side drop down panniers on it are quite lightweight in waterproof terms.

Thank you very much for the pics....

Is this the same http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/ro...k-bag-with-side-panniers/topebagp275000000000

If so why such a price difference to http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/topeak-mtx-trunk-bag-dxp/rp-prod28663

Is this also the same? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-rx-trunk-bag-dxp-with-side-panniers/

Our tour is c2c whitehaven to Sunderland over 2days in May.

I just assumed it was, my books survived a short downpour last week in the panniers. Maybe not so waterproof long term though...

Yeah they're all the same, think there's only one dxp model?

It's the middle link in your post but the drop down element is the same in all three. The MTX is styled differently and doesn't expand upwards as the RX-DPX appears to. That's probably the difference. A three for two at Halfords was how I got mine but you could shop around. Will be fine for a tour like you've suggested and many years of work commuting too.

I don't think they all have the fold out panniers. I have the mtx bag, fab bit of kit, still going strong after a good couple of years of quite heavy use. I have the waterproof cover too, not cheap considering what it is, but needed in heavy rain

Allterrain cycles often have these at a good price, but google for best deals and don't forget Quidco if applicable
