Are they any good?

Although this time of year i tend to wear a gilet i find my full sleeve windproof is falling to bits so i am looking out for a new one as at 5 am it can be a bit chilly so i do need a full sleeve on occasion.

Has anyone got one of these and are they any good? is it a proper windproof rather than a full on rain jacket as i want something light as otherwise i just boil in the bag.

I have one of those and I would not recommend it. I only used it when I was caught in a heavy shower once, it did a great job of keeping the rain out. Unfortunately I was sweating like a pig in it, it is definitely boil in the bag. I am sure it is really windproof, but I reckon you will sweat to much in it. I got the similar jacket Aldi were doing a month or so ago for the same price and it is better in every department, way more breathable and also lighter and packs up better and is good in the wind too. The jersey I use for wind protection if it is not raining is an Endura FS260 Pro long sleeved jersey and it is pretty good. But it is much more expensive and not at all waterproof. Maybe checkout Tenn Outdoors they seem to be good value for money.

It's a lightweight rain jacket - i.e. keeps out the rain. It's deffo boil in the bag. I have one and use for the warmer months - unzip it if not too heavy rain.

I have one and to be honest it is fine in the winter but it is boil in the bag and it goes in the cupboard in the spring not to re-emerge until the autumn.

If you seek a windproof, but not waterproof light jacket, then Decathlon do another one in bright orange which is very good. Wife uses hers a lot, and I only stopped short of buying one myself so we didn't look like some kind of twins! I can't locate it on their website now, but I bet they will still have some, maybe on the "end of line" rail.

I bought the Aldi one on their last "cycling week" and it's very good, if a bit bright yellow. Still at least it will be more difficult for someone to say "sorry mate, I didn't see you".....

+1 on the boil in the bag effect.
Mine only gets used in the depths of winter, when tbh it's very good. The cut is excellent with a long tail to keep your backside dry.

For windproof duties I have the Decathlon gillet. Folds up nice and small, has a mesh back, a big pocket and is windproof and (for the bits it covers) shower resistant.

Yep - very much boil in the bag! Keep mine with me for emergency use only - heavy showers - and find it very effective, though difficult to know whether it is waterproof as so much 'moisture' builds up on the inside. Otherwise the Aldi jacket is good for keeping light rain/drizzle/wind off. Better fit and packs smaller than the Cropton. (Did anyone ever find an Aldi white one in Small size?). For me the Aldi running jacket (sold last October, and identical to the recent cycling version, except for lack of relective stripes) seems a better fit.

If you are happy in your gilet then just get yourself a pair of armwarmers for the chilly mornings CK, they are great and are very small/lightweight once packed away.

TY i have some on order , the roubaix sort i have atm are a bit to thick .

The coat i have currently is the altura cropton, it has survived 2 winters and was free with a C+ subscription so i guess it has not done to badly .I shall probably get another one but it will be next month as this months allowance has gone on some new spd pedals and the armwarmers.

Thanks for all you replies as it has saved me a 60 mile round trip to look at something that would have been no good

I have one and they are merely a tool against short sharp showers in which they do exceptionally well for the price, but I wore one for about 20 miles during a wet audax and ended up wetter on the inside due to sweat.
