Decathlon Triban 3

Hi –

I'm new to cycling, not having ridden for 20-odd years or so and am keen to get a wallet-friendly road bike. I've read lots of good things about the Triban 3 and as this is in my price range thought I'd go and take a look. I've been reading about the newer (white) version being different to the older (red) one. Apart from losing the carbon forks, does anyone know whether anything else has been dropped and is this still a good bike worth buying? Or does losing the carbon mean it's less of an attraction now?

Thanks for any help!

Hi , I own said red version. I believe the Triban 3a white one has "micro" gear changers and different gearing set + the non carbon forks.

Thread all about the differences here

Having removed the carbon fork has made it pretty much the same as any other decent £300 road bike. A friend bought the carrera tdf from Halfords and it's ok.
I would consider the 5a if you want a decent road bike that will last you a while.
My friend sold his tdf after 6 months and invested in a much higher spec machine
