Getting faster, very slowly
Got a day off tomorrow to build my long running Surly project bike. Or actually, to watch Nick at The London Cycle Workshop build it. I would help but I'd only mess it up.
Having been told off at home for having four bikes, I decided to keep the two road bikes and sell my Plug single speed 'commuter' and my Trek hybrid 'shopper', and stupidly, have tried to design something inbetween. It had to be low maintenancce, but have a few gears to get the shopping up the hill, so I went for a Sturmey Archer 3 speed. It needed to have mudguards and rack mounts BUT have horizontal dropouts for the Sturmey. This proved tricky but I eventually found the Surly Crosscheck. Thanks for your suggestions when I posted previously by the way. I went for a few nice parts to jazz it up: bars, seatpost, headset, cranks, Brooks saddle etc. I think it'll be a nice ride and look good too. I'll know this time tomorrow hopefully. It'll certainly be a lot heavier than my road bikes though.

I wasn't sure whether I should keep the Surly decals. They'll come off with the hairdrier treatment I think. They're not covered with lacquer. Is it mean on Surly to get rid of them?

I'm keeping a blog My Bikes & The Excuses I´ve Made For Buying Them which I'm hoping will strike a chord with some of you.

I'd get the hair drier out – being bald I have no other use for it – Not a fan of lots of decals on a bike – now a nice head badge would be different.
