Hi there,Last week I was happily commuting to work approaching a steep hill at about 18mph,i changed gear and the chain decided it would jump right over the cassette and in between the wheel and cassette, the chain then snapped and wheel came to an abrupt halt throwing me into the road, luckily there was no cars about as it was silly o/clock,the chain was really jammed so had to call for help, the wheels, spokes and frame looked ok but when I had a proper look yesterday the chainstay has taken a gouge where the chain snapped, firstly it looked like it had just removed the paint so I bought some paint chip paint but when I applied it there was definitely fibres coming off the pen(oh yeah, did I mention it's a carbon bike?)What do I do now? new frame? can you get them repaired? hope for the best? new bike? help please:sad: bike is/was a Raleigh Avanti Race:cry:

Repairing carbon frames is not an issue these days.

The professional option : http://www.carboncyclerepairs.co.uk/index.html

The DIY option : http://www.carbonology.com/kit-no-2b-the-bike-frame-repair-kit-p-240.html

If you can see the exposed fibres I would personally repair it as moisture between the fibre can cause delamination.

A good how to of an extensive repair can be found at the following URL

As the damage is on your chain stay, once repaired I would cover it with a m-part carbon chain stay protector... looks the business and is functional.

the guys at carbon repair are helpful could be worth sending them some pictures and asking for advise/quote
