I didn't expect it to be little ... The guy who gave it to me is a six footer like me. I haven't measured it but it looks about a 20?
He says he bought it secondhand from a LBS in 1970 & claims to have not replaced anything on it! I'm not convinced by the suicide levers, bar tape, mudguards or saddle tho....
Its got quite a lot of paint damage & it needs a damn good clean but hey it was free!!

Measured it & its actually a 21" took off the awful 80's bar tape & tried some white bluemels on it.... Looks a lot less 'kid's bike' now  I'll have to look out for a cheap lycett saddle when funds allow & have a think about what colour bar tape.

Have you got a special bike magnet?

You seem to have found another good bike! Happy cleaning!

I used to live in crewe & there's a lot of old bikes in that area gradually decaying in the back of peoples garages... A legacy of the old Rolls Royce works (now Bentley) everyone used to cycle to the factory. Now of course, most people who work there, take advantage of the vw group discount car lease schemes offered through the company.

Have you thought about contacting Dawes to find out the year of manufacture? I contacted them recently about the age of my Realmrider and, with the serial number I gave them, they were able to tell me that mine was built in 1961. They were very helpful. Email is support@dawescycles.com.

Thanks IPC ...duly noted.. I dated mine from the Williams chain wheel code (zf) as a 1965. I know its not guaranteed that the chainset has never been changed, but I know the guy who had it previous to me bought it secondhand in 1970 & he's never changed it, so it's a pretty fair bet & fits with the other components. The bike's a bit too small for me so doesn't get used much tbh... Got any pictures of your 61?
