I was thinking of buying a town bike. I've seen two possibilities.

Dawes Mirage
http://www.dawescycl...rage-gents.aspx
18 speed
13.5 kg

Claud Butler Legend
http://www.falconcyc...cb/legendM.html
New price this one is more expensive
Front suspension
24 speed
16.5kg

I'd be making a 25 minute trip round trip each day. Partial gentle incline one way, nothing too strenuous. I've seen these 2nd hand, both in black, and both about the same price.

Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions on which to opt for? Based on either the components, frame or manufacturer reputation etc.

Thanks!

While there are differences in spec, imho they should both serve your purpose, you might well find that you only use 4 out of the 18/24 gears. Assuming they are in good condition and more specifically their geometries fit you just as well, I think the Dawes, if it indeed weighs 13.5 kg vs the CB's 16.5 kg, would be livelier and more fun to ride.

Thanks very much RAFN..!

What do you guys think of this type of town bike with front suspension? That is, for relatively short journeys?

I realise many say they don't necessarily make the journey any better.

Though do they in any way make the journey worse? Perhaps more energy is required by the cyclist to power the cycle due to the suspension?

Or perhaps it's just 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of another...!
