Bare then a Galaxy will be about 10 or 11kgs. Add on racks etc, then a million tonnes

I have a basic Galaxy and i seem to remember the website saying 13kg when i bought it. Not entirely sure if that included the rack too.

good touring type bike?
Cheers Ed
Yes. Sturdy, reliable and comfortable. I've only used mine for commuting up till now but will be off touring this year on it

Yes, that's what it's sold as and that's what it is.
Just to clarify, touring in this case means travelling long distances with heavy loads, not to be confused with fast lightweight touring a la TdF.
yep I was pretty sure it was a real touring bike but was just asking as touring bikes go is it a good choice? especially for the money?
Do not forget that it is law to tuck your trousers in your socks, when riding these bikes.
Trousers tucked into socks and a pair of SPD sandals. Its the only way to ride.
why's that? do they get caught in the chain, or is it just tradition?

I got what I believe to be a good deal on my 2013 Galaxy from SpaCycles and think I got a fantastic bike for what I paid. The Galaxy has been around for close to 50 years so it cant be that bad. Its a straight forward, no nonsense, exactly what it says on the tin, touring bike.

As for the trousers in socks, who wants to ruin their best tweed touring trousers? Having to find a dry cleaner mid tour can be a bit of a pain.

I too got a good deal on my Galaxy from Spa a few years ago. I got one of the last models with the parallel top tube (not the sloping top tube they now use) I prefer the look of mine to the new ones, but that's just personal preference. I have ridden my galaxy quite a bit (not the massive miles some use them for) but I find it supremely comfortable and have ridden a few century rides in miserable weather and its been great. There may be better tourers out there but I'm more than happy with mine.

As wintergreen says, also do you smoke a pipe by chance because that is another law for these bikes.
