Dawes Galaxy 2012 model for sale in a 48cm frame size in the lovely British Racing Green colour scheme. I purchased this bike for a JOGLE trip 3 years ago, but after using the bike for training I found the top tube was too long a reach for me and suffered with shoulder and neck pain. I have since purchased a Thorn Sherpa with a much shorter top tube and hence the sale of this bike.

It is in excellent condition, with a couple of tiny marks on the paintwork from storage and a little rubbing from the cables on the head tube. There are the usual small scuff marks on the cranks and on the rear carrier where panniers have come into contact with the rack and a nick in the handlebar padding but these are all very minor and do not affect the bike at all. There is a high quality Tubus Logo rear carrier and I had a Blackburn MF1 front rack fitted, which I found useful for putting bulky but light items on, such as a sleeping bag. Of course you can also fit the Ortlieb front Panniers on this rack as well, so the bike is ready for touring.

Spec: Reynolds 631 tubing, Shimano Sora 9 speed, 27 gears, chainrings 46,36,26, Shimano cassette 11-32, Dura Ace bar end shifters, Wellgo dual purpose pedals (flat on one side, SPD on the other), Shimano hubs 36h, Alex XT19 double wall rims, Shimano alloy cantilever brakes, Tektro levers, Schwalbe Marathon 700 x 32c, Selle Italia FLX saddle, Dawes alloy micro adjust seat post, SKS chromoplastic mudguards, Tubus Logo rear carrier, 2 alloy bottle cages.

Please do not confuse this Galaxy with the newer aluminium frames, this is equivalent to the Galaxy Classic range and had a RRP of £1,200. I bought the bike in a sale for just over £850 and must say it is an excellent bike for that sort of money. It runs smoothly and quickly (a fair bit quicker than my Sherpa) The tyres are great for both on road and on gravel tracks or canal towpaths. It really is a great touring bike, but quick enough to use as a commuter or audax bike with the comfort of a steel frame. I have covered approximately 1,000 miles on the bike and have the original paperwork. It has had a service at the local LBS this week so good to go.

With regard to the sizing, I am 5'5" and 29" inside leg. I have the seat fairly low, so ideally I think this bike would fit 5'5" to 5'8". The sizing for the Galaxy is larger than other manufacturers so do not be put off by the small frame size. You are welcome to come a try the bike for size. The top tube is 54cm

I am based in Gillingham (that is in North Dorset, not the Gillingham in Kent.) We are on the main railway line between London Waterloo and Exeter if that is any help. Would appreciate cash on collection please and am looking for £495.

Will try and get some photos loaded shortly

Am I asking too much for this bike or is it just too specialized a type of machine and I need to wait for the right person. Just curious as it's difficult to try and pitch the right price. I am not willing to give the bike away, but there is no point expecting the price I am asking if I am way off the mark.

Your issue is that it's not a 'standard' size and type - it's more of a specialist purchase. Imo the price is OK.

I've the same issue with my son's bike I'm selling and I'm not prepared to give it away.

Thanks for the replies, at least I know I am in the right area with the money. I guess you are right about the frame size, oh to be 5'10

Five years on and I'm buying the same bike (different size) on Facebook Marketplace. The seller wanted £325, I offered £275 and he said £300 was his bottom price. Bearing in mind that this is now a ten year old bike. I responded that he should have a look on eBay and after searching for Galaxy 631 2012 he should select the "sold" and "completed" filters. That way he could see what these bikes actually go for. He came back the next day to say he would accept my offer. I too resisted the eBay page and there was only one bike in 12 sales that paid more than I was offering and that was for a virtually unused later model.
The bloke selling it had only four indoor photos of the bike taken with a slightly out of focus camera.
The bike that sold for £420 had twelve pin sharp photos taken in good light highlighting the key areas that someone looking at a bike wants to see. He'd also given a long blurb explaining why the bike was up for sale and it's history.
When it comes to selling a bike there is an element of using marketing skills and not just hoping that a buyer is waiting for your bike to come on the market.
I noticed that when looking for a Pashley those that were offered at very competitive prices were sold within hours.

It's a Galaxy and a classy bike. You are asking the right money for it I think. I did see Gillingham and thought about looking and saw not Kent, and I'm too tall. Great bike though don't sell cheap.

You didn't see that it was 5 years ago though?

Nope.
