Dark ring on rotor

recently changed my pads and rotors, but only a week or so later the noise coming from them was extremely loud,,so,I've removed them to clean and noticed a dark ring around both sides of the front rotor, covering all the braking surface, I've tried lightly sanding, washing and using Isopropanol spray but it seems totally imbedded...so can I still use the rotor or do I need a replacement..?

I'll,fit new pads but don't want to waste a new pair if the rotor is now ruined.

That don't look good. Has it badly scored the surface. The other thing could be sticky calliper leaving the pads in contact with the disc.

The surface seems totally smooth still.
The pads when fitted were really tight, didn't get the noise until I took it to the lbs to get a spoke fitted, so could be containination of some sort on the pads/rotor.

Looks like they have been scorched/overheated but not badly. Do you drag your brakes a lot?

I'd say it's a mixture of riding the brakes leading to overheating, and doing so with contaminated pads.

there was a lot of power losss, so I had to use a lot of power to stop the bike...

Can they be reused tho, or do I need to replace?

Guess I'll try and see.

looks like rotor burn. Check pad/rotor alignment for rubbing and don't drag your brakes. Also check to see if the pads may have been contaminated.

clean the rotors give them a sand off but check your pads for glazing. Also check to see which compound pads you're using. I just sand down any glazed pads and bed them in with high speed stops.

Thanks...why do you say to check which pads I'm using? Do I need to buy the same again?

They are organic, they seemed contaminated, and glazed, so I'm off now to buy some more, I'll reuse the rotor.

The fit was tight, so I will look at checking that before fitting.

The brakes are deore m615s, there doesn't seem to be a go to pad for these breaks, a google comes up with a few options, with the shamino B01S coming up mostly, so I buy those....any better options anyone?

Take a look at Superstar components or uber bike for cheaper pads.

Have you tried to clean the pads or do they look greasy, oily etc. I'd clean them with isopropyl alcohol and give them a light sanding on a flat surface. Then break them in. Check the calliper alignment to see if theyre rubbing on the rotor.
I say check the pads because some rotors don't like sintered pads.

That looks like a normal brake rotor to me; it's quite usual for them to develop bands of discolouration. It's to do with transfer of material from the pad to the disc under the heat of braking.

Stop worrying and carry on riding.

I use these brakes. I've tried allsorts of pads and usually end up back with OEM resin.

I've currently got some uberbike semi metallic in, they work fine, but feel crunchy and can be noisy. I think they was only two quid cheaper than Shimano.
