Shame, I liked him. Glad they are doing this though and I would prefer it happens more often. It also seems to be that older cyclists at the end of their careers are being hit hardest. Sort of gives the impression that you will only get the ultimate ban when you are just about finished.

The two highest profile life bans (the only two??) are Dani and Lance, both late 30's or so. Perhaps harsher sentencing might help discourage more, it probably would have helped David Millar if he had seen that as a young man.

Anyway, always good news when a doper is made accountable.

Bit difficult to ban somene from riding a bike...which is effectively what the BBC story says...

He'll probably pop up in sportives "winning" them and getting a few bob, which he will have cheated some honest guy out of. It's getting tougher though, the new WADA code is 4 years out first time, and for a lot of people that will be end of career. Good thing, as is being on a testing pool where you can be tested out of competition at any time*
* Despite all the whinges from people in other sports about interference with their "rights", they are professional well paid sports people and testing goes with the job. Besides, the systems asks you for a location for one hour per day, and you can alter the location any time by texting the anti-doping number that is part of the information. Or at least that's how it worked when I last looked.
Anyway no-one should be sad to see the back of convicted three time losers.
Should we be so harsh? Yes because anyone who has lost any event to a cheat has been, well, cheated, and possibly had their career prospects and/or financial situation affected.

The amount of drugs I did in my wild and reckless youth, I'd have been banned for my next 6 incarnations. Though in fairness most of them would have given any opponent a huge advantage if I ever competed.

You cant win sportives as they are not races, just timed recreational rides for like minded people who like to cycle.
