Cylist v lorry, A1 Northern Ireland

Police have closed part of the A1 in County Down following a serious crash involving a cyclist and a lorry.

The northbound carriageway is closed between the Hillsborough flyover.

The A1 was briefly shut in both directions between Dromore and Hillsborough, but the southbound carriageway has now reopened.

The carriageway has also been closed heading south at at A50 Castlewellan Road, Banbridge. A contraflow is in place.​

Terrible news today, just after a family getting hit by a car to! Definitely noticed drivers & especially lorries giving me more room today. Sad that it takes a death for some people to wise up.

RIP - but that's definately not a road I'd ride on. It's basically a motorway with the odd junction.
