Hi all,
Having been knocked off my bike a few weeks ago and my bike written off, i took the plunge and went for the halfords deal on a boardman cx team. My old bike was a claud butler criterium.
I still have a few weeks of r&r before i can ride again, but in the meantime i'm doing a fair bit of reading up. Question is though, what tyre pressure is best for this kind of bike.
Or does it depend on the tyre choice. If the latter, any recommendations?

Cheers

I am no expert but it depends on the tyre and what surface you are riding. I normally have my cx tyres at 75-80psi but my husbands cx bike needs a lower pressure. Obviously you can adapt pressures to the surface you're riding too.

If you ride mainly on the road then 28mm Continental Gatorskins are a robust fairly fast tyre. You can also ride on canal towpaths and sustrans trails without problem. Obviously you won't have much grip in wet muddy conditions as they are a slick tyre. I run mine at 90 psi.

2014 model?

If so I believe they come with Schwalbe Rapid Rob Kevlar Guard. Are these the ones?

Schwalbe website gives you the correct advice for these tyres.

Tyre width will depend on what level of comfort you need eg rough roads/off road 32-35mm are good. despite what I have read on forums speed-wise it makes no discernable difference to my times as to whether I run 28/32/35mm on my bike.

35mm are very comfortable and very grippy.

I run Schwalbe Marathon Deluxe 35mm on my TCX1 - expensive, incredibly durable, very high levels of puncture protection and in contrast to some of the Marathon range these are acceptably light. I use these mainly for country lane riding and the occasional excursion onto green roads and forest trails.

They work well for me with ok traction on wet grass/very light mud but they are not going to take you through sodden muddy bridleways.

I am heavy (read: fat! 205lb) and run the front at 5-5.5 Bar and the rear at 6 Bar.

Thanks, yep, 2014 model

Tyre wise, need a good all rounder so i can go to work on road, but the come home off road when the time suits.
I shall have a good look through the tyres mentioned, cheers
