This morning I was behind a lorry, and noticed that on the left, just above the mudguard, was a sign warning cyclists not to cycle up the inside.
I can't remember the exact wording, and didn't have my camera on today, so can't show you it exactly, but it was good. I would improve it by making it bigger, as it didn't really stand out as much as it should.

Anyone else seen them?

Yes I have seen them when waiting behind an HGV. I don't think I would see it if I had the intention of undertaking though.

I have seen a couple . I think the wording was "Cyclists take great care if passing this vehicle on the inside. "

I had a discussion with a non cycling friend recently, he said a bike had filtered past his car in a long que of traffic on the OUTSIDE and how dangerouis he perceived this as being.

Im not sure I fully convinced him that this is probably safer than filtering on the left.At least he went away with at least some idea why we do things that may appear odd to a non cyclist motorist.

shell Uk have had them on the back of tankers for a long time.

there are a few comcrete mixer lorries around london that have them and the diagram about left turning needing a wide turn

I've seen a few, typically on vehicles owned by larger companies.

I think they're a good idea, but <RANT> if HGV operators know there's a problem, perhaps better mirrors would be more useful than a sticker </RANT>

I work near a busy ready-mix depot in SW8 and see a lorry or two nearly every day. Nearly all of them have a yellow warning sticker on the back warning cyclists not to sneak up the inside. Good thing too.

how many mirrors do you put on there. thats using equipment to compensate for behaviour when really behaviours should be changed. a left turning aerticulated lorry has a huge blindspot that no mirror can ever pick up as the trailer corner fills the mirrors . ( Ok a mirror about 10 foot out might but thats just impractical)

I see these quite a lot around Birmingham. The best ones I saw were only a couple of weeks ago. Not seen them before (or since!). I was driving so didn't have helmet cam but on the nearside the vehicle had a large no bikes sign [ bike in red circle crossed through ] with the word "NO" underneath and, on the offside, a permissive cycle sign with the word "YES" underneath. I've tried to find the images online but without success.

some lorries have fresnel mirrors which reduce the blindspot. But that, as I'm sure you'll agree, doesn't invalidate the stickers.

I was told off for filtering on the offside ages ago by an old couple, much the same as your tale I think. I didn't bother to correct them and just cycled off.

Offside is safer.

When you think about it that's where they expect motorbikes to overtake and how often do drivers check their nearside door/wing mirror? The majority that I pass don't even check the driver side mirror when there are two flashing lights shining directly into it.
