Mr BP and I were at Hebden Bridge yesterday and enjoyed the drive over from Oxenhope - the downhill into HB is a lovely run and we followed a cyclist doing around 40mph. We commented that he must feel comfortable with the twisty, car-strewn sections.

Fast-forward to this morning and Mr BP and his cycling buddy were on a cafe stop in HB and an old chap told them about the cyclist who had come down the fast descent, through Pecket Well, round a corner and into a parked car, through the back windscreen yesterday afternoon while we were in town! That sounds like a real nasty incident and I hope that the chap (or lady) manages a full recovery.

Colin J is a resident - he may know more (hopefully it wasn't him).

It wasn't me folks.

I bet you I know where that happened - there is a right hand bend by the Robin Hood pub in Pecket Well and then the road curves back into a blind left hand bend. There are nearly always parked cars round that bend just out of sight. I'm already braking by the front of the pub in anticipation, and I look for reflections in the windows of cars and buildings opposite to give me extra warning of vehicles coming the other way.

That does sound really nasty. I hope whoever was involved is okay. I can't find news in the local news sites yet, but I'll check again tomorrow.

I did find this report of an accident involving a cyclist in Pecket Well in 2008. The descent from Cock Hill is fast and fun but there are places where you have to be sensible and Pecket Well is one of them.
