Apparently a cyclist has been knocked down this morning in Glasgow at the junction between Hydepark Street and the Broomielaw, by the Daily Record building. I work on Hydepark street and saw a police 4wd, paramedic vehicle and another 4wd parked at a strange angle. I passed at about 9.30am.

I arrived at the office 2 minutes later to "Thank god you're here - a cyclist was knocked down at the bottom of the road." from a colleague. I'd been running late thanks to a p*ncture and she'd put 2 and 2 together and got 5.

Hope whoever was involved is ok.

Is that within the narrow contraflow roadworks?

Was up there the other day, and that section is a shambles just now with the ongoing works on the south side of Lancefield Quay.
Is that not part of @Pat "5mph" route to and from work at the SECC? Let us know your ok, Pat! Hope whoever is involved makes a quick and full recovery.

Yes, towards the city centre end of it. No room for a car to pass a cyclist there at the moment though that won't stop some of them trying if you like riding in the gutter (I don't).

I saw a couple riding a tandem eastbound through that contraflow the other night, peeing rain and they were filtering first on one side then the other. Impressive slow speed control but not too clever given how narrow it is.

No news reports of any collision yet so hopefully that means it isn't serious.

I'm still anxious to hear from @Pat "5mph" though...

fear not, I'm ok, just home safe and sound!
Was cycling there at 9.30 this morning, did not see a thing as was concentrating on the road.
Hope that the rider is ok! Any more news?
It's ok to ride on the other side of the cones towards the SECC, they are only keeping it separate because of eventual debris could hit cars - I think so anyway, there are no diggings on the lane at all, just watch out at the lights for cars that rejoin the left hand lane.
On my way back I'm firmly in the middle, no worries there.
Take care all, Glasgow is a gigantic building site at the moment.

The shared path running on the south side of Broomielaw is back in use, if a bit fiddly. That coned off area of the Broomielaw requires you to be firmly in primary- I go right in the middle of the lane, too many drivers think they can nick past quickly before the coned bit- it's a wide two laner that rapidly narrow- horrible. Hope the cyclist is ok.

There's been nothing in the news which I hope suggests it wasn't serious.

As much as that whole stretch is a nightmare at the moment, I'd still rather stick to the road than try to use that poor excuse for a shared use cycle track next to it.
