Just driving back after a day out with the family and caught some unusual traffic.

Looks like a cyclist has either come off or been knocked off at the bottom of the big dipper at rejerrah. He was sat up with a neck brace on but lots of road rash and blood everywhere but alive!

If that was you get well soon, I know that hill is good for 40 + mph as it's dead straight and about 8% for half a mile ish but didnt see/know how fast he was going

Know it well- great for speed to roll (as far as you can) up the other side but can imagine it would hurt if it goes wrong.

Get well soon whoever it was.

Hope the rider makes a full recovery.

I used to ride that hill every now and then between Newquay and Redruth, the first time I hit +50 (massive tail wind) was on that hill.

Just been down it again (in the car) and just as it starts to rise there is a massive pot hole where some pipes have been recently replaced and the repair has sunken directly where you'd be in secondary so looks like hes hit that at speed and come off

Hi all,

That cyclist was actually my brother. The chain snapped on his bike as he was near the bottom of the hill (he reckons he was doing about 40mph) and he went over the handlebars and hit the tarmac face first. He's in Treliske hospital still as they need to put him under general anaesthetic to try and piece his nose back together. We're still waiting on results from x-rays, but generally he is fine and is walking around ok.
From what I understand he hasn't seen his helmet since the accident and so believes that it must have taken a beating and have been discarded - looking at him it seems quite seriously true that his helmet may have saved his life.

I happened to come across this whilst Googling 'cyclist Rejerrah' (just seeing if there was anything in the news about it) so thought that I would quickly make an account and update you all. Thanks for your concern for him - I will pass on your messages to him when he is out of hospital.

I cannot tell you how relieved I am that he was wearing a helmet.

Hi Jodie,

Glad to hear your brother is ok and on the mend or at least about to be mended.

A broken chain sent me flying about 10 years ago, it happens, we mend and we try again.

Cheers,

Marcus

Hi Jodie

Like I said before hope your brother gets well soon. Was nice to see a few car drivers stopped to help him out as well.

Dont start on the helmets lol theres already an entire part of the forum dedicated to it!!! Lol. However sometimes they work wonders especially when face planting on a bike!

GWS to your brother, I can confirm that helmets don't help with face plants. Mine did help with stopping me taking the skin off my forehead.
Hope there's not too much muscle damage to his neck that's the bit that takes time and teeth.
