"Stephen Churcher, 46, from Bonnyrigg, died on the B7003 in Roslin Glen, between Roslin and Rosewell, on Friday.
His family said: "A family man, keen cyclist and canoeist who loved the outdoors. He leaves behind a wife and two children and will be sadly missed."
Police Scotland has appealed for witnesses."
