Cyclist charged with Vehicular Manslaughter

Interesting story. The guy, it appears, rode out into the flow of traffic from a side road and into the path of a motorcyclist:

Two things it says to me: if you're gonna do stupid things you're just as likely to get hurt if it goes wrong, and secondly they don't mess around out there with their legal options.

I think thats excuse making for his actions somewhat.

This sounds a perfectly reasonable application of the law to me if state/federal law allows that option.

The motorcyclist appears (with only the article to go on) to have died as a direct result of the failure of the cyclist to yield.

Very sad for both parties.

Horrid to die and horrid to take a life.

Pretty un-newsworthy to me. Prat on a bike killed someone through poor awareness and a failure to follow simple road rules. Hope he gets what he deserves for causing a death through his stupidity. Still won't bring back the motor-cyclist.

I think it is newsworthy to some small extent. People often say that the Police (yes even Stateside) dont deal with bad cycling and I think this does show that they will. I also think that making stuff like this public it shows the errant that they may well be held to account if they cause a death.

He could claim the sun was in his eyes, so he didn't see the motorcyclist. That excuse worked for a motorist here in the UK who hit and killed a cyclist.
