HELLO!!
I've signed up to the London 2 Paris April 2015 4 day ride! yeah talk about a baptism of fire, I've not been cycling since my teens!! But I wanted to do something different and raise money for a fantastic cause.
as I've said its in April, from 22nd over 5 days, but I get the last day as a reward parisian style before travelling back- infact I have 202 days left. Yep! everytime I login to my donations page, there is a little countdown.
Event location: London 2 Paris.
Ok the event is actually a managed bike ride, however I am doing this solo, no one else was crazy enough to sign up when i did.
This is to raise funds for the National Autistic Society. Their webpage is http://www.autism.org.uk/ should you wish to find out more information. I was going to choose a cancer charity to raise money for, but autism has affected me in such a personal way and is often overlooked in the fundraising ranks.
See my brother was born 10 years my junior, so I was nearing teenager age when this cute, squidgy lump of baby appeared. I still remember singing him "twinkle twinkle little star" but by the age of 3, it was clear he had difficulties- wasn't walking correctly, language was progressing slowly and would always line his toy cars, drove me insane when stepping on them!! fast forward he is now a strapping lad of 16.
here we are;
I've always tried to deny his disability, I know he has it, but he is on the scale of it "medium" so tried to treat him as any other kid. However my mum didn't, she used and abused his condition to get at benefits etc. He has no understanding of the outer world, work and interacting with others on a more social -casual basis. It scares me. He STILL WATCHES POWER RANGERS via YouTube. I want to support this charity for him, i want autism to be noticed, understood and hopefully through that more options and opportunities for those with autism like my brother.
Minimum sponsorship: £1,470.
I have been doing training (some may recall my previous posts)
I will use this thread to record my progress and miles; as well as any charity events I am organizing, you are more than welcome to come if in the area.
I was going to ask if each of you would donate £1 for every 50 miles mark I have achieved. I have to ride 300+ miles for this, so I have a way to go since my latest ride clocked 36 miles.
Please visit my donations page; http://www.doitforcharity.com/L2P2015
just to say thank you very much in advance for your advice, tips and support on this journey.
