Not from personal experience, but I've heard Endura Hummvees are good. Not cheap though.

I use polycotton walking trousers, either Rohan bags or Craghopper Kiwis. They are not waterproof but I prefer quick drying to waterproof anyway, they wash easily, although most stuff brushes off them, and they look like trousers rather than cycling kit.

Ron Hill Bikesters are really quite good as well. Well priced, last well (i used mine for commuting every day for a year and although they're showing their age now, they're still in one piece)...i have three pairs and wouldnt hesitate to get them again.

Bikesters should be illegal.

Bikesters are tighter than trackie bottoms but not full on tights - perfectly OK - I used bikesters for a year or two at my 'new at the time' employers, but now full on road kit - too old to be ar$ed about what folk think as I'm walking to the loos to get changed.

ah i'm in ireland wonder could i get them on line though.
I've picked up 3 or 4 pairs (not just for me, family & friends) online direct from the Craghoppers site. They seem to have sale lines quite often, including (I just noticed, by coincidence) a 50% off sale running at the moment, including their zip off trousers, winter lined trousers and, my favourite, the Pro Stretch.

Craghopper . i where them all the time, on the and off the bike, i have the zip of tip, i used them for my 5 week tour this year and now use them every day, i have a pair of the winter lined and they are lush in cold weather., spray them with a nikwax for extra water repealing but if they get wet they dry so quick, is to hand wash, big pockets, ect ect
