Cycling Tops and Size

Hi Guys

I bought a Sky cycling top, Size Large and to be honest I thought I had bought a boys size large. I am a medium in t-shirts so thought going a size up would be fine but this top was tiny.

How many sizes do you go up for a cycling top?

I don't think they have invented the manufacturing process to allow Lycra to be made big enough for me. I would guess I would need at least an 18 XL going by some of tops I have seen in shops.

Bit of a pain as I do most of shopping online due to the rubbish instore collection at Evans and Edinburgh Bikes

Buy several sizes from wiggle or chain reaction cycles, try them on, then return the ones that don't fit for free using the collect+ service. Of course this presumes you have the cash on hand to buy several sizes etc but you can always break out a credit card for this purpose.

Yeah that is probably the best, getting vouchers for birthday next month from the missus to will hit the online shop and see what they have.

Different cycle clothing manufactures have different interpretations of sizing. There seem's to be no standard.
Yip, I'm a small in most makes but my (circa 2007) Irish Pro jersey is a large and whilst a medium in some makes will fit other makes will drown me (so as to speak)!

When I'm buying any cycle clothing, I check the website of the shop I'm buying from because a lot of them have sizing charts for each manufacturer.

Some of them vary greatly, e.g. I am a medium in 'normal' clothes but had to buy a XL when I bought a Sportful Reflex 2 jacket (must admit I was a bit gutted at the time but it fits me perfectly!!).

Alternatively, use Google to search for a sizing chart for a particular manufacturer.
