I generally ride all year but this winter I shall be.....trying to get better at hill climbing! We have some killer hills here in Derbyshire, One of the hills beats me every time, I can cycle it to the top but have to stop a good few times before my lungs explode, I'm pretty good at hills in general even if it is slow paced. I am determined to do this hill if it kills me doing it lol

@Big_Dave not so many hills here as such, a couple of good short gradients though that get you working, I tend to do more of the hills in winter as one its cooler two the hills can provide some shelter from the wind, if you plan your ride with an eye to the weather, to the east we have a lot of flat open fields which riding in the N. N.E. E. winds are none to pleasant.

Hills are a part of life down here- so just going for a ride gives you a good workout- I shall be mostly applying rule 5 and trying to avoid reasons not to ride.

@helston90 Was down cornwall last week on the mtb around the old tin mines portreath to deveron, We have lots of hills, short steep, long and steep and stupidly steep. My "Flat" route I did a couple of days ago 38miles 2450ft climbs, slightly hilly route 1200ft in 12miles, hilly route 800ft in 1 mile

@Nigelnaturist choice of hills or head wind, hills every time I reckon. Hills and head wind = day off lol

This is why I dislike the 17-19 jump.

This winter I hope I am commuting to work by bike!

A 5.5 mile commute and 95% of it on cycle paths.

I need to purchase some items in order to become commute ready, but in the meantime I am "in training". One day I'll actually try cycling to work on my proposed route on a day off and see how I get on. I travel early in the morning and late evening so at the very minimum, I need lights
