Does anyone know any good cycling routes around Thetford Forest in Norfolk? I'm heading there next weekend with a group of friends. Our abilities and fitness vary, but we will all have road and mtb's so any advice on good road routes (ideally away from the traffic) or tracks would be most appreciated.

According to the Forestry commision web site there a four routes aroaund the forest ,6,8 &11 mile cycle routes and one called an MTB black route at 10 miles so there is plenty to go at there.Looks fun even though i've never done it myself

Hi Rushadventures :hello:

I've been to Thetford Forest a few times, there is a place called High Lodge which is a sort of outdoor activities centre.
This is where you'll find the marked routes that skudupnorth mentioned.

It's located along the B1107 Brandon Rd, you do have to pay for the car park, about £9 all day per car. It is really good for single track riding, and there are a few "bomb holes" if you fancy a bit of the daredevil stuff

If you don't want to pay for a car park, then take a look at the link above. This is a route I recorded with MyTracks, on my Android phone when I did a charity ride.

If you look where it crosses the B1107 & B1106 there is some parking on the side of the road. Then you can just ride into the forest using the fire roads. Using a combination of Google StreetView and Satellite views you may be able to see more clearly.

This is of course for MTB's, there are loads of quiet country lanes around this area too for road bikes, but I'm not too familiar with that side.

Hope you get on OK, and tell us how you do.:hello:

beat me to it. the"bomb holes" are Marl pits, some of them are a bit sphincter twitching. the fire roads are superb for riding on and a road bike should cope with most of them. if paris-roubaix can be done on a road bike the forest fire roads can

we did the blue route there on their rented mtbs, me with a tag along on the back, perfectly ok for us, nice route barring a few tricky bits of sand, the lady wife took a spill in one, don;t see that much in London

nice enough centre and very nice forest
