Anybody got a plan for this year. Mine is to get from South London to Littlehampton and back. Preferably in the same day.

To all those who viewed and didn't reply I declare this a sh-t subject for a thread.

Make a plan Spud and Gaz, put a link on the rides section, then you may have a good few other Cycle Chatters join you...

Spud and Gaz - what Ian said.

Also, it might be worthwhile tracking back through the 'Informal Rides' section to see how approachable these Resolutions are.
Here's an example:

This illustrates that you have to be mad. Innocent. Borderline crazy and over ambitious...although the rides, particularly in a group, at midnight and beyond, pass easily, and give you the whole day to ride back to London.

Littlehampton is a good indicator of a cold night ride...

LOL. That's what I was going to say Ape  Mind you, I'd have picked a ride we actually survived

Fair on though Spud. Depending on your route and start point, it could be as little as 120 miles round trip. We were putting hills in the way deliberately because, well, ILB is a bit ill in the head.

With a few months training, 250+ miles in a day are just about achievable, so with the right build up, I reckon you could add in some very nice scenery.

Actually, plan it right, and bets are you get invaded by cc'ers up for a challenge.

250 MILES IN A DAY!! My balls ache just thinking about it. I haven't done more than 98 in a day up to now so the round trip of 120 is going to be my challenge for the year.
Congrats on your post.

LOL!

I'm not saying its a great (or even desirable) idea, but it is surprisingly achievable.
With the right (or is that wrong?) friends, it may even be mandatory.

Seriously though, extending your range by 20% between now and summer is an entirely realistic goal.
I think you'll be fine

I have three bikes in my shed that have never been on an AUK ride.

This is the year to change that.

BSA 20 shopping bike.
Moulton Mini playground bike.
Batavus Ladies 5 speed town bike.

250 miles in a day.

That is an AUK Rando 400. 24 hours or better.

The 2009 AUK handbook can still be viewed on their website. ( I'm in it ).
There were 197 members in 2008 who won a Super Randonneur. This award includes a 400 AND a 600

It is difficult to total up the riders who completed a 400 BR. But one thing is for sure... it's a very, very small percentage of the United Kingdom cycling population.

Even a 300km, just under 200 miles in a day, has only been achieved by less than 1% of UK's cyclists.
